The Tippah County Republican Executive Committee seeks ideas and suggestions on issues that should be addressed in 2025 by state and local political leaders.
Below are issues that have been proposed for consideration
School Choice – The Tippah County Republican Executive Committee firmly believes that parents are best equipped to decide how to educate their children. By advocating for and passing legislation that empowers parents to choose the best schools for their children, we can ensure that every child in Mississippi has access to the highest quality education possible.
Stop Medicaid Expansion – As a rural community, the citizens of Tippah County are all too familiar with the challenges of accessing healthcare for themselves and their families. We recognize that expanding Medicaid will not solve the problems facing rural hospitals or improve rural healthcare. Extending taxpayer-funded insurance to able-bodied adults only diverts critical resources away from those who truly need them. Instead, we believe that repealing Certificate of Need (CON) laws will more effectively address the healthcare challenges in our community, offering better options and improving care for our citizens.
Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform - Civil asset forfeiture is an unconstitutional practice that allows law enforcement to seize property or assets from individuals merely suspected of criminal activity, even without charges or a conviction. This blatant violation of constitutional rights must end. We must ensure that the rights of our citizens are fully protected, and no one’s property is taken without due process.
Lower taxes – We believe that individuals, not the government, are best equipped to decide how to spend their own money. When people keep more of their hard-earned income, the free market thrives, leading to job creation and economic growth. We fully support the continued elimination of state income taxes without raising other fees or taxes, and this principle should also guide local governments and school boards. In this time of runaway inflation, when families are facing unprecedented financial hardship, any tax increase by a government entity only adds to the burden, making it harder to live, work, and raise a family in our community.
Illegal Immigration – We believe our county is the best in the world, offering unmatched opportunities for success. We strongly support legal immigration because hardworking individuals from around the globe enrich our community and contribute to our shared prosperity. However, we firmly oppose illegal immigration and any effort by local or state officials to use public funds to shelter, support, or encourage it. Across the nation, we’ve seen the harmful impacts caused by officials who have allowed this in their communities, and we will not stand for similar actions in our county.
Voter Integrity – Fair elections are crucial to our nation and must be protected. Prioritizing legislation that requires proof of citizenship and residency for voter registration is essential. We believe local election commissioners should collaborate with the Secretary of State to ensure that our elections are fair and accurate. Legislation similar to Senate Bill 2670, proposed in the 2020 legislative session, should be enacted to strengthen these safeguards.
These are solid platforms that the County GOP should fight for.
I would also like to see a demand that our Sheriff protect their Citizen's Constitutional rights. When tyrannical rules and laws are placed upon the Citizens, the Sheriff should not only refuse to enforce them but publicly rebuke those infringements on our God Given and Constitutionally protected rights.
Some of us moved to this State and County as Political refugees. We don't want to see the same sort of shenanigans gaining ground here as well.
